INDIA - DAY FOUR

This morning, October 25th we were picked up by our driver Babu and our guide Sunny to drive to Jaipur. Babu was our driver for 3 days starting yesterday, October 24th. Sunny would come with us as far as Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri is an exquisite city built by Akbar the Great in 1569, in red sandstone, with forts, palaces and mosques but was abandoned after 14 years due to lack of water.  It is now a tourist destination.

Babu asked us after lunch if we would like to see a household where his “cousins” lived.  Actually we are not sure whether they were cousins or of the same tribe or caste.  We said absolutely and we were in for a real treat. So we stopped just off the road where there were two small buildings in which a whole bunch of people live.  We think there was the "grandmother", plus 3 elders and there wives, sons and many daughters and all their families.  But there were so many people we aren't sure who was who.

More pictures of the cousins and a young boy who really did not want his picture taken.

Water Buffalo at the Cousins home

No telling how many people were living in the two small buildings. Our guess is that the family was fairly well off because they had some 8 or 10 water buffalos.

This was a great stop and Babu introduced us to everyone and translated for us. Babu was a great driver.

We had a cultural dance exhibit at the Sheraton that night with music and three lovely lady dancers.
